He was a carpenter. He married Elizabeth Mader on Oct. 15, 1858 at Corpus Christi Church in Newport, Ky. They had 10 children together.

Felix was the son of John Baptist Mader (b. about 1798 in Switzerland) and Josephine Schett (b. about 1810 in Switzerland). The family emigrated in 1845; arriving aboard the ship Leopard on Nov. 25, 1845 in New Orleans, LA. On the ship's roster, the males in the family were listed separately from the females.
