Issac Newton Elsea life-long resident of Hancock county died at his home 315 West Lincoln street Christmas evening at 8:30 o'clock. He slipped on an icy walk in the rear of his home Wednesday morning striking the back of his head and never regained consciousness.
He was 74 years old the day before Christmas. He was born in Eagle township, Hancock county Dec 24 1846. For many years he had celebrated Christmas and his birthday anniversary together with his family at his home on Lincoln street. This year Christmas was saddened by his passing.
Mr Elsea gained great prominence as an agriculturlist having owned several farms in Hancock county and having been actively engaged in that work practically all of his life.
At the age of 19 he sevved his county by volunteering and entering the Civil War, 13 Oct 1864 serving until the termination of the war. He was a member of Company E, 29th Regiment, Ohio Vet. Infantry.
On Aug 23 1868, Mr Elsea was united in marriage to Melissa Jane Line who preceded him in death having died July 31, 1916. To this union was born eight children all whom survives. He is also survived by the widow who was formerly Elizabeth L Henry to whom he was married June 26 1918.He is also survived by one brother Lafe Elsea of Lime Avenue, also three sisters, Mrs Joseph Newell of West Lincoln street, Mrs Elizabeth Hartman of East Lincoln street and Mrs Samuel Deeds of Rawson
Mr Elsea was a member of the Stoker G.A.R. Post of Findlay and having fought and suffered under the Stars and Stripes he was an unusually patriotic citizen, always having great love and welfare of his county at heart.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday morning at the United Brethren church. Internment will be in the Findlay mausoleum Maple Grove Cemetery.
