YORK Maryland D. Griffin, 89, died at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at York Lutheran Retirement Village at Sprenkle Drive. She was the wife of the late Ivan L. Griffin. Maryland and Ivan were married for 40 years when he died in 1975. Born March 16, 1918, in York, she was the daughter of the late George L. and Carrie E. (Damuth) Himmelright. Mrs. Griffin was a retired employee of D and D Sewing. She retired in 1966 with 16 years of service. Maryland was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church and of TOGOS. She was a former member of United Methodist Women. She was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother and was well known for her crocheting and knitting. Maryland made literally hundreds of articles of clothing to take to the Mt. Wolf Senior Center and from there they would be given to the York Salvation Army and the York Rescue Mission. Surviving are three daughters, Linda G. and her husband, Donald G. Ort of Manchester, Sue K. Bullock of York, and Bonnye E. and her husband, Jeffrey C. Melhorn of York; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis Harris of Mt. Wolf. She was predeceased by a daughter, Saundra K. Griffin; three sisters, Loretta Linthurst, Vera Wilson, and June Geesey; and two brothers, George and Bernard Himmelright. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 12, 2007, at Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1111 E. Market St., York, with the Rev. Owen H. Walter, visitation pastor of her church, officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
