Bandy was the son of Samuel H. and Martha E. Smithee. His first name derives from the maiden name of his grandmother on his mothers side. Samuel and Bandy were co-proprietors in S.H. Smithee & Son Groceries in Altus, Greer County, Oklahoma Territory. Bandy passed away at the age of 21 due to complications of peritonitis after battling Pneumonia for ten days*.
