In WWI he served with the 89th Division (called the Midwest Division) of the American Expeditionary Force in the trench warfare of France. His unit was the 314th Engineers.
On 26 July 1922 he married Ida Allison. Ida was the daughter of Elwood and Nancy Allison; who lived in Chaonia. Pearl and Ida were the parents of two sons; Harold and James. In the 1920's the family moved to St Louis where Pearl worked in the steel mills of Granite City.
On 22 Nov 1938 Pearl married his second wife Helen Olivia Benton. Pearl and "Short" were the parents of David and Charline. The family moved back to Wayne County where they lived in Lodi and latter south of Greenville.
David Pearl White died at the age of 94; a proud American, he was paid tribute by an Army Honor Guard Team at his funeral.
