George D. Mozingo
George Donald Mozingo, 92, formerly of Altamont, died at 1:45 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2007, at Medicalodges of Eudora in Eudora, Kansas, where he had resided since February 2004.
He was born October 19, 1915, in Strauss, Kansas, to Henry Alvin and Icy May (Shannon) Mozingo.
He grew up and attended schools in Parsons. He worked for the Katy Railroad and owned a greenhouse in Parsons before being drafted to serve in the Air Force Engineers in 1945. Following basic training in Texas, he worked as a postal clerk in Spokane, Washington, and Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1945, he purchased a produce store in Altamont. He sold the store in 1948 and began work as a carpenter.
He and Thelma Maedene Evans were married October 19, 1938. She preceded him in death on December 17, 1993.
He was a woodcarver, did stained glass work, enjoyed fishing, and was an avid gardener. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont for 48 years.
SURVIVORS: Two Daughters – Vernis Kay Flottman and her husband, Larry, of Lawrence, KS; Jerry Ann McDowell and her husband, Don, of Watts, OK; Eight Grandchildren – Greg, Jay, Adam and Todd McDowell, Amy Brown, Terry Gilbert, Jeff Flottman and Marci Stanwix; Sixteen Great-Grandchildren; Sister-in-law - Ruth Evans of Riverton, KS; Several nieces and nephews
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Harvey Mozingo; six sisters, Maggie DeCow, Ida Foster, Ada Foster, Lura Owen, Flora McClure and Icy Jean Mozingo; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. Friends may call at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont after 1:00 p.m., Friday.
