DEATH OF MRS. GENE BARNES
The death of MRS. GENE BARNES at her home Sunday morning
April 15, brought sorrow to scores of friends. She had been ill a long time and the end came very peacefully. She was tenderly cared for by her family and friends, and it was her wish that the minister thank all who had done the last little thing for her.
Mrs. Barnes was a truly good woman and her friends in
speaking of her tell of her thoughtfulness and loving
kindness for all with whom she came in contact. That she
performed her earthly duties without faltering, was devoted to her home and family and that she always had a smile and a word of cheer for everyone, is the greatest tribute that could be paid her. The beautiful flowers given by relatives and friends and their attendance at the final rites were silent tributes of love and sympathy. Her life story is as follows:
ELIZABETH MAUDE TIBBETTS was born May 28, 1885, near
Olathe, Kansas, and passed away at her home in the Dutton
community April 15, 1928, her mission in life being
completed in 42 years. 10 months and 13 days. She moved
from Kansas to the Dutton community when 19 years of age,
and had lived most of her life in the same community.
On February 10, 1917, she was united in marriage to T.
EUGENE BARNES and they shared each others joys and sorrows
for over 11 years. She was a member of the Methodist
Episcopal church and lived a sincere Christian life.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, three
daughters, MRS. ISABELL TORRENCE, and FRANCIS and MARY
BARNES; one grandchild, JIMMY TORRENCE, all of the home
address, and one sister, MRS. SADIE BROCK of Emporia,
Kansas; one brother, GEO. F. TIBBETTS of Olathe, Kansas, a
number of friends who, though they regret her passing,
rejoice that her labors are ended and she has claimed the
reward of righteousness, that eternal entrance to the
Heavenly Home.
Funeral services were held at the Dutton church Monday
afternoon at 2 o'clock, April 16, conducted by REV. C.H.
HICKMAN, home pastor and REV. J.A. COX of Gracemont, former pastor. MRS. FRANK DuBOIS sang "Beautiful Isle of
Somewhere," as it was Mrs. Barnes' wish. The pallbearers
were close friends and neighbors of the deceased, being
GORDON GOREE, ROY KEES, EMERY CASSEL, DORSE SHOCKLEY, LOUIS WATSON and ROY KEEN.
Burial was in the Friendship cemetery.
