Toliver Littleberry Hicks first married Clara Moore (4 Mar 1822) in Wake County, North Carolina. Clara's sister Margaret "Peggy" Moore had married Toliver's brother William A Hicks on 23 Oct 1819, also at Wake County, NC. The two families both made their way to Texas, although Peggy died abt 1831 while living in Georgia.

Toliver & Clara appear to have "tarried" in a number of locations as they made their way west. In 1830, they were censused in Coweta Cty, GA. In 1840, they were censused at Jackon County, AL. In 1845, Toliver owned property in Neshoba Cty, MS, and in 1850, the family was censused at Cherokee County, TX. By 1860, they had moved to nearby Angelina County, TX.

Sometime between the 1860 census, and 1865, Tolvier's 1st wife Clara died. He then remarried in Angelina County, TX on 25 Jun 1865 to Venette C (Mills) Anthony, the widow of James M Anthony who died during the Civil War.

Venette was censused with Tolvier at Angelina Cyt, TX in 1880, but by 1900, she was widowed. Although there does not appear to be a marker for Toliver Littleberry Hicks, Vernette has a headstone engraved Vernette Mills Hicks at the Gann Cemetery at Pollock, TX in Angelina County, TX. Vernette's parents, William & Charlotte (MNU) Mills were also buried there in 1861 & 1862, respectively. Their headstones match Vernette's.
