Member of Yale College class of 1918. He left school in 1917 to enter Officers' Training Camp at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis and was commissioned a captain and assigned to the 322d Field Artillery based in Ohio during World War I.

During his time at Yale he played on the baseball and basketball teams and received his "Y."

He was vice-president of Lawrence Manufacturing Company in Lowell, MA and vice-president of Jerguson Gage & Valve Company of Somerville, MA.

His family summered at Cuttybunk Island off the coast of New Bedford, MA and his hobbies included tennis, golf and woodworking (he lost part of a finger in the latter hobby).
