Augusta Daily Constitutionalist, 30 Mar 1865: "Major R.N. Hull, of the 66th Georgia Infantry, was shot through the left temple while covering the retreat of our forces at Binnicker's Bridge, Orangeburg District, S.C., on the 9th of February. He was taken by the enemy to the nearest house and expired in two hours. He was so gallant as to elicit praise from the foe."

Major Hull's death and burial are described by an eyewitness in the 1895 book, "Our Women in the War - the Lives They Lived, the Deaths They Died." (pp. 153-160, titled "Sherman in Orangeburg").
