Thomas Edward Boldt, age 56, of Henderson, NC died on May 16, 2021, at Duke Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, NC.
Private funeral services will be held at a future date at the First Presbyterian Church in Kinston, NC, and his ashes will be buried in the family plot at the Colfax Presbyterian Church in Grundy County, IA.
He was born on April 9, 1965, in South Bend, IN, to Wilma Robinson Boldt and Donald Boldt. He lived with his family in Michigan, Australia, England, and Georgia before moving to Kinston, NC in 1979. Thomas graduated from Kinston High School in 1983, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He received his BS in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a work study student at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Thomas completed one year of graduate business administration at East Carolina University, and was admitted to the Darden Business School at the University of Virginia, where he received his MBA. His business career was primarily in finance in Hartford, CT, and Boston, MA. Late in life he found his calling as a science teacher at the Phoenix Academy, an alternative school for troubled youth in Oxford, NC.
Thomas married Jackie Jamsheed in 1995, and they were later divorced. In 2017, he married Susan Arnow, who predeceased him in January 2021. Thomas loved UNC basketball, the Red Sox, the New England Patriots, Air Jordans, and playing guitars.
He is survived by his parents, Donald and Wilma Boldt of Kinston, NC; his brothers David (Sharon) of Winter Springs, FL, and John (Paula) of La Grange, NC; and his nephews, Jason, Brandon (Jessica), and Andrew.
