William H. Washington, 95, of Stafford County went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at his home. He was born in Westmoreland County on George Washington's birthplace, to the late William R. Washington and Della Mae Ambrose.

William was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the VFW. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1944-1946 and the Korean War from 1950-1954. After the war he went to work with the RF&P Railroad for 33 years and then the Fredericksburg Auto Auction for 25 years.

Survivors include his sister, Mamie Ellen Brown (John); his daughter, Lucille Huffman; son Raymond H. Washington (Denise); daughter Kathy N. Butler; grandsons Riley B. Watts III (Allyson) and Marcus Delaraga; and granddaughter Brooke K. Scruggs (Jennifer). He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy M. Washington; brother Raymond Washington; sisters Ethel Ambrose, Helen Ambrose; and son, William H. Washington, Jr.

William was a hardworking man with few words. He was a great father, grandfather and friend who set an amazing example for his family. He will be deeply missed.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
