Adele Adams Swift died on Sept. 20, 2007, at the age of 73, after battling cancer for several years. She was born on Dec. 5, 1934, in Lovell and was married to George Swift for more than 49 years.

Adele was a high school home economics teacher in a number of cities. Beyond that, for several months, over radio station KWSC, her voice was heard reporting the activities of the home economics professors of Washington State University. Her cooking skills were demonstrated at the Minnesota State Fair, and she had a two-page pictorial spread in the Minneapolis Tribune on how to make a peach pie. Many of her students benefited from her sewing knowledge.

Adele loved and was loved by all who knew her. She was helpful, energetic and worried about the happiness of others. Her hobbies included finding "monkey" trees, collecting "owl" objects and doing church activities.

Preceding her in death were her father and mother, Thomas and Lucy Adams and her brother, Tom Jr. Surviving is her husband; her sisters, Gloria, Pat, and Kathy; and her sons, Herb of Adamstown, Md., Tom of Vancouver and Jon of Fargo, N.D.; as well as seven grandchildren.

She was buried at Willamette National Cemetery in Salem, Ore.
