BURTON, Nelson (Dandy)— Age 92. November 6, 2002. Born February 27, 1910, eldest son of the late Lillie Armstrong Burton and Andrew Mizell Burton. He made his home at the Blakeford, located in Burton Hills the former home of his parents. A Deacon at Union Ave. Church of Christ in Memphis for many years, Mr. Burton was a member of the David Lipscomb University Sports Hall of Fame and was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. His father was the founder of Life and Casualty Insurance Company. Mr. Burton was a district manager of the Life and Casualty Insurance Company in Memphis for many years until his retirement. The Burtons lived in Estill Springs, TN for fifty years. After the death of his beloved wife of sixty years, Katrine Lynch Burton, Mr. Burton moved back to Nashville to be nearer his ever growing extended family. His family will forever keep close to their heart his teaching them to love God and Jesus and each other. As he believed his father forgave his mistakes he showed love and forgiveness to his children when they made mistakes. Preceded in death by grandsons, David Burton and Barry Burton. Survived by daughter, Jackie Spain (George); sons, Nelson Lynch Burton (Ann), A.M. Burton II (Martha); sister, Louise Burton Roberts. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday November 9, 2002 Hillsboro Church of Christ, 5800 Hillsboro Pk., Bro. Walt Lever officiating. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers: Brad Spain, Lynch Spain, Adam Spain and Darwin Spain, Steve Burton, Dr. Andrew Burton Ill, Mel Burton and Mark Burton. Grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Mr. Burton will lie in state at the church one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the David Lipscomb University Athletic Department. Visitation with the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Ln., Nashville, TN, 383-4754. A Dignity Memorial Provider.
