On December 25, 1866 as Jacob B. Solt, he married Elizabeth Fromme at St. John's United Church of Christ at Boalsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania.
They were the parents of three children.
He was a native of Center Hall, Center County, Pennsylvania and farmed during the early part of his life. He later became a contractor and in the 1970s graded three miles of the Lewisburg and Tyrone, Pennsylvania railroad. He then opened a merchandise store in Center Hall and in 1889, he moved to Maryland. In 1909, he purchased the Wellon Glen home on the O'possumtown Pike and lived there until his wife died in 1917. He then sold the property and moved to Frederick, where he operated a grocery store on North Market Street. The store closed in 1924. He was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church and Leaders' Bible Class. In Center Hall he was superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School for many years. He died on Friday, March 20, 1925 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles N. Daugherty on East Patrick Street at 10:45PM at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 13 days. Survivors include his two sons: Calvin F. Solt of Gettysburg and James E. Solt of Frederick; one daughter, Mrs. Charles N. Daugherty of Frederick; one sister; four half-brothers who live in Bellefonte, Williamsport and Elyria, Ohio. Services were at the home of his daughter. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements were by C.E. Cline, funeral director.
