Vaughn Miner Clayton, almost 94, passed into the arms of his loved ones who had gone before him on Nov. 4, 2007, in West Jordan, Utah.
Vaughn was born November 27, 1913 in Curlew Valley, Idaho, to Horace Elijah and Francis Effidila Miner Clayton. He married Eunice Marie Edvalson on December 16, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were the parents of four children.
He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a scoutmaster, teacher and later Branch President of Ankara, Turkey where he then resided with his family.
He worked for the US Forest Service and later for the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) eventually becoming the head of the Western Region. His travels took him to many parts of the world, the North and South Poles and to Greece and Turkey where he resided for several years with his family.
Vaughn loved many things and took great pride in learning how to do things he wanted to do from water skiing to home construction. He had several boats, travel trailers, motor homes, motorcycles and was skilled in electronics, radar, and radio-assisted aviation navigation, to name a few.
Vaughn is survived by his second wife, Edith Woolley Jex Clayton, four children; Yvonne (Will) Day of Santa Clarita, CA; Keith (Connie) Clayton of Springville, UT; John (Roberta) Clayton of Holly Springs, NC; and Christine (Robert) Spring-man of Indianapolis, IN; five step-children, 23 grandchildren, 45 great-granchildren, and many step-grandchildren.
His loving wife of 56 years preceded him in death. He later married a long-time family friend, Edith Woolley Jex, who had been the wife of the Bishop of the Santa Monica, California LDS Ward when the family had lived many years before.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Berg Mortuary, Provo.
Interment followed in the West Weber Cemetery, West Ogden, Utah, beside his first wife, Eunice.
