Ernest Dale Champ, 78, of Peru, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021 in Miller's Merry Manor.

Born on June 20, 1942 in Twelve Mile, IN, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Opal I. (Emery) Champ. Ernie grew up on a farm and was active in 4-H, a tradition that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Ernest was a 1960 graduate of Metea High School where he served as the manager of the basketball team.

On November 25, 1962 in the Corinth Brethren Church, he was married to Mary Esther Hanna, who survives.

After 30 years of employment, Ernest retired from National Friction/Carlisle Corp.

Ernest was a member of the Corinth Brethren Church. He enjoyed restoring antique hit and miss gasoline engines as well as tractors and the Model A. Ford car. Ernest and Mary enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to antique shows where he would exhibit his engines.

Surviving with his wife of 58 years are three children; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Fry.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 22 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Lorie Keck officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bethlehem U.M. Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 11 AM on Saturday until the time of the service.
