Funeral services for August Schertz, 86, who passed away at the home of his son, Louis, on Wednesday morning of last week, were held from the United Brethren church of this city last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
August, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schertz, was born in Lafayette, Indiana on August 11, 1852. At 8 years he moved with his parents in a covered wagon to Tazwell Co., Ill. At twelve his father passed away and he assisted his mother on the farm until he was 18, when the family moved to Woodford, Co., Ill. On February 16, 1875 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Garber.
In 1893 the family moved to Nebraska, settling on a farm 4 miles southeast of Aurora. In 1912 they retired from the farm.
