Charles W. Grinestaff, 78, formerly of West Grove died Sunday morning at Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford. Charles was the widow of Jean M. Kauffman Grinestaff, who died February 2, 2007.

He was born in Jonesboro, Tenn., a son of the late William and Lula Hilbert Grinestaff.

Charles worked in construction during his lifetime, retiring from Copula Construction Company after more then 20 years of service. He was a member of the Jennersville Church of the Brethren. An avid race car fan, he owned and drove race cars on the dirt track circuit for over 29 years and was known as "Chargin Charlie". He was a member of the York County Racing Club where he was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1994.

Charles is survived by a daughter, Linda Greiner of Pottstown; four sons, Dale married to Judy Grinestaff of Quarryville, Ronald married to Ida Grinestaff of Manchester, Terry married to Wendy Grinestaff of Mountville, and James married to Tracey Grinestaff of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roy married to Judy Grinestaff of Kirkwood. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Grinestaff.

Interment will be in Quarryville Cemetery.
