Contributed by Rich - Joyce Eva Hovenburg Ahart, a lifetime Buena Vista County resident, was born on January 15, 1918 in Alta to Burton and B. Ethel (Lawrence) Hovenburg. She attended Alta Community School and graduated in 1935. She continued her education in post-graduate, work and then worked at the Alta Post Office for several years.
On November 19, 1950, Joyce was united in marriage to Enos "Bud" Ahart. This union was blessed with two children, Lawrence and Deborah. Joyce was a loving and devoted mother and wife. She enjoyed living on the farm and helping Bud. She also enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors over coffee. Joyce was a good friend to all and touched a lot of lives. Joyce was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church in Alta and was very active in many church activities.
Joyce passed away on November 20, 2004 at her farm home at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 5 days.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud Ahart; two sisters-in-law, Doris Gustafson and Eileen Ahart; and one brother-in-law, Harold Gustafson.
Joyce is survived by one son, Lawrence Ahart and his wife Marilyn of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Deb Madsen and her husband Terry of Elk Horn; five grandchildren: Ryan, Greg, and Alex Ahart and Dean and Clark Madsen; two sisters-in-law, Lavern Dierenfield and her husband Walter of Storm Lake and Kathryn Wadsworth and her husband Wesley of Belmont, Calif.; one brother-in-law, Neal Ahart and his wife Marjorie of Hartley; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
