Herbert Noel Barker, age 95 of Gretna died Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at his residence.
Born October 22, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Grover Cleveland Barker and Mattie Pearl Robertson Barker.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Arlene Belderes, Becky Rowland, and Dorothy David; and three brothers, Buford Barker, Onyx Barker, and Owen Barker.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Hines Barker of the residence; two sisters, Margaret Clay and husband, Ronald of Hurt, and Ruby Shelton and husband, Otha of Pittsville; two sisters-in-law, Sue Barker, and Patsy Barker; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2021, at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Bob Ballance. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in Gretna Burial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2021, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, and other times will be at the residence. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Gretna Care and Share Program, P.O. Box 339, Gretna, VA 24557. Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna is assisting the family.
