Mark...our direct line ....was the son of the Isaac who died in the
revolution...Isaac's son was Samuel Sober. After his father died in the Revolution.....
Samuel came up to Northumberland county Pa. and took over a lot
of property which his father Isaac had surveyed out to own....

Isaac's son Samuel Sober resided in New Jersey after his dad
died of small pox in the Revolution.

later in life...Samuel born 1771 came up to Northumberland county
and purchased the land which his father Isaac had settled before he
joined the revolution. That land that Samuel purchased is 7 miles
from me . ( I live in Sunbury Pa. ) Samuel's land was in Shamokin township.Northumberland county. Pa. ....Samuel married Isabella Moore.
Samuel Sober and Isabell had a family...( the son Isaac born to Samuel
and Isabella was born in 1814 ),,, Isaac married Mary Krighbaum and
they had 10 children....one of the 10 was my great grandfather
Freeman Sober. Freeman and his wife Mahalah Moyer left the farm
in Northumberland county Pa. and moved down to Surry county Virginia.
Mahalah's sister Susanne Persing had bought land in Surry also...and
wanted her sister to come on down from Pa. and live on the adjoining farm to hers ...in Virginia. When Mahalah and Freeman moved down to Surry county
Virginia they brought along their grown family...of which was my
grandfather. Harvey Clinton Sober. and his new wife Harriet Adams.
Harriet Adams and Harvey C. Sober had lived in the home with Harvey's
father, Freeman. And when Freeman died....Harvey Clinton Sober and
wife Harriet Adams Sober remained in the home and took care ofHarvey's
mother ,Mahalah ( Freeman's wife)..
It was in this home in Surry county Virginia that my dad Harvey LeRoy
Sober b. 1898 was born.(son of Harvey Clinton Sober and Harriet. Harvey LeRoy, of course ( was also your father "David's" dad.
Harvey LeRoy Sober married Floy Wright Head. from Richmond Va.
She taught school down in Surry ..Va. not far from the Sober farm.
That is where Harvey LeRoy Sober and Floy Wright Head met and married.
Your grandfather Harvey LeRoy Sober had brothers and sisters
( children of Harvey Clinton Sober and Harriet Adams Sober. )
you may remember some of them as Merlin C. Sober, Willard Sober
*(Willard is Donald Sober's dad)...Donald inherited the Sober farm in
Surry Virginia. Donald now resides in the farm house.

You may have heard "some" of the story of how the Sobers ended up in
Virginia....They had lived here in Northumberland county Pennsylvania

Freeman had brothers he left behind here in Pa. They had owned the
Pa. Sober farm in partnership...
After Freeman left for Virginia...his other brothers sold out their lot of the
farm to one of their other brothers...that was Coleman Sober...
Coleman is noted for owning a Chestnut farm ...grafting chestnut trees
and being known for selling chestnut trees to people all over the world.
And selling chestnuts also. The old barn in which he housed his team
of "race horses" and harvested chestnuts...is Still standing to this day..
Freeman had left that farm in the late 1800's to move south...but his
children and grandchildren still made many visits back to the farm in Pa.to
visit Coleman and Martin and Clinton D. ( the other part of the Sober
farm ownership after Freeman moved to Virginia. )
None of this is relevant to what the David Sober that you are e-mailing
or "face book'ing" needs to know... but I thought you might not know some of the Sober origin..and Past.
I can tell from writing to you about this....that I am also loosing a lot
of my memory.
Hope that I have not passed on anything incorrectly...from using my
memory...........if so..the next generation can search it out and correct
it..ha!
