Kathleen Mavourneen (Blowers) Tietema was born on May 4, 1927, in Manyaska Township, Martin County, MN. She was the daughter of John and Esther (Johnson) Blowers.
On October 25, 1948, Kay was united in marriage to Charles Tietema. The couple resided in Fairmont, MN, where Kay worked as a homemaker as well as food processing at Stokely Van Camp, and as a housekeeper at the Fairmont Community Hospital. This union was blessed with sixteen children.
Kay was an avid reader and also enjoyed tending to flower and vegetable gardens as well as embroidery and coloring. She was always game for a good hand of cards such as 500, buck uker, cribbage, and canasta. Kay most loved the time she was able to spend with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and sibling.
Left to cherish her memory include her children, Elizabeth Foley, Patricia (Daniel) Curran, Michael Tietema, William (Patricia) Tietema, Christopher (Gerry) Tietema, John Tietema, Mary (Curtis) Hinz, Teresa McDonough, Jane Grimes, Margaret Lewis, Jacqualyn Tietema, David (Dana) Tietema, and Thomas Tietema; 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; sisters, Rose Duncan, and Pat Padgett; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, John and Esther Blowers, Kay was preceded in death by her daughter, Katherine Diekmann; sons, Robert Tietema and James Tietema; grandson, Adam Tietema; brothers, John Blowers, Roy Blowers, Gerald Blowers, Jerome Blowers, and David Blowers; and sisters, Constance Brecht, Elsie Soucek, Thelma Martin, Mary Follet, Irene Chipp, Margaret Brannum, Dorothy Skog, and Sandra Storbeck.
