Death Claims Esteemed Resident of Smiley Section
Death claimed one of the highly esteemed residents of the Smiley section Saturday night Jan. 30. at 11:30 o'clock, when Jesse Williams passed away at the Nixon hospital where he was taken for treatment. He was taken ill quite suddenly on Friday and it was scarcely more than 24 hours after that he was called to his reward.
Mr. Williams was only 49 years of age. Surviving him are his wife, four children, one grandchild, three brothers, one living at Ballinger, one at Junction City, and one at Smiley, and seven sisters, among them Mrs. G. Ramsay of this city and Mrs. Luther Colley of Smiley.
Mr. William was born and reared in the county and had lived in the Smiley section for years, being one of the well known farmers of that section, universally liked for his pleasant, jovial disposition and his admirable traits of character.
He underwent an operation Saturday morning as a last resort, but all to no avail. His death was a sad blow to his loved ones.
The funeral, held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock at Smiley, was largely attended many relatives and friends assembling in his honor. Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. K. Ridgeway of the Smiley Baptist church, of which he was a esteem member for years, assisted by Rev. Worrell, pastor of the Methodist church of Smiley.
In the bereavement the family and loved ones will have the sincere sympathy of scores of old friends throughout this section.
A brother from Ballinger and another from Junction City were among the relatives from a distance who attended the funeral.
