Alice Belle Cobb's first husband was William W. Wise who died between 1900 and 1910. They lived in the Sandy Run section of Lexington County. William was a commercial fisherman. William died on either the Congaree or Wateree River and was buried on an island when he died with malaria. The people on land would not let his body come ashore nor would they let him come ashore when he needed medical treatment. He was a fisherman by trade and would live on his boat for short periods while fishing with an assistant. His assistant cared for him until his death.
