Mrs. Johanna O'Shonessy Dies in Her Eighty-Eighth Year

After an illness of only a few days, Mrs. Johanna O'Shonessy, aged 87 years, mother of Charles O'Shonessy, former chief of police of Sioux City, died last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Burns, 620 S. Second street. She had been feeble for several years. The funeral probably will be held tomorrow afternoon. Mrs. O'Shonessy was the widow of Michael O'Shonessy, who died forty-one years ago. She was born in County Cork, Ireland, in 1817. Coming to America in 1850, she settled at Burlington, Ia., in 1850, and has been a resident of the state since that time. In 1852 Mr. and Mrs. O'Shonessy moved to Iowa City, where they lived for a number of years; where the children all were born and where Mr. O'Shonessy died. About fourteen years ago Mrs. O'Shonessy came to Sioux City to live with her children. She is survived by four sons, John, Michael, Charles and Thomas, and by one daughter, Mrs. Burns, all of whom live here.
