Leatha was the daughter of Rolla and Nellie (Elder) Vermillion. She was a sister to Jessie, John, Marlyn and Ross. She attended scholl at Maud for eight years and had just completed her freshman year at Cunningham High School. Since the death of her mother in July, she had attended to the work on the farm which had formerly been her mother's task. She attended church at the local Christian Church and was always glad to be of service to Sunday School and other church activities whenever it was possible.
