A memorial service for John Lewis Crapo, 77, who died at his home here Monday, is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Joy Gartman of the Wells Episcopal Church will officiate and cremation will be at Sunset Crematory. He was born Dec. 1, 1921, in Roosevelt, Utah, the eldest son of Vernon and Clara Crapo and was schooled there. He joined the U.S. Navy following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and served for the duration of World War II. Following the end of the war, he rejoined his family in Elko. He married June Florene Lani, an Elko native, on June 22, 1948, and they were the parents of three children. He worked for Bell Telephone of Nevada, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed the country and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was noted for his restoration of antique cars and restored a 1918 Model T and a 1929 Model A from scratch. Survivors include a daughter, Sheila, and granddaughter, Holly, both of Elk Grove, Calif.; and two brothers, Errol and Walter Harmon Crapo of Elko. He was preceded in death by son, Leslie in 1980; wife, June in 1992; and son, Greg in 1998. In his memory, contributions are suggested to Northeast Nevada Museum, 1515 Idaho St, Elko 89801; or Great Basin College, 1500 College Parkway, Elko 89801.
