McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana, Illinois Online Obituary
Steven Ray Adams, 69, of Pana passed away Monday, May 3, 2021 in his home from prolonged health issues. He was born March 7, 1952 at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, IL, son of James Taylor Adams & Ina Ruth (Jackson) Adams. Steve's father, James, tragically passed away when Steve was 10 years old. His mother, Ruth, remarried a wonderful man, Carl D. Blazier, who then raised Steve and his two sisters, Cathy & Ruth Ann as his own. Steve's parents work in the garment industry brought him to several cities throughout Southern & Central Illinois, where he attended numerous schools, the last being Moweaqua High School, where he was involved with football and various other sports, which he enjoyed immensely and excelled in.
Steve enrolled in the U.S. Navy in 1969 and served at Great Lakes as a Radar Specialist until he received his honorable discharge. After leaving the Navy, Steve pursued a career in electronics installation and repairs, for which he had extensive knowledge and ability. He enjoyed spending his spare moments fishing, playing music, including the guitar & harmonica.
Sadly, Steve was involved in a serious car accident in January of 1984 that nearly took his life. He survived but the accident caused his confinement to a wheelchair for his remaining years. Not one to let this hinder him, his spirits remained high and his outlook positive. Upon release from the hospital, he continued to remain strong willed and independent. Steve had a fabulous sense of humor and often joked of his condition, never allowing it to defeat him or get him down even as the years began to take their toll.
Steve will be greatly missed by his surviving family members and friends as he continues his journey to rejoin with those that have gone before.
Steve is survived by his father, Carl D. (Tina) Blazier, Decatur, IL; siblings: Ruth Ann Adams, New Orleans, LA; Sherry Lea Blazier (Karl) Brown, Decatur, IL; nephews: Timothy James Hood, Peoria, IL; Tracey Dee (Lisa) Hood, St. Charles, MO; James Jason (Emily) Miranda, Baton Rouge, LA; Adam Michael (Jenn) Miranda, Baton Rouge, LA; Zachary Robert (Hanna) Brown, St. Louis, MO; niece, Jamie Lynn Brown, Shelbyville, IL; cousin, Verna Foltz Delucia, Cape Coral, FL; uncle, Charles Jackson, Carmi, IL and numerous cousins, great nieces & nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father, James T. Adams of Peoria, IL mother, Ina Ruth Blazier of Decatur, IL; sister, Cathy Mae Adams of Pana, IL; numerous aunts, uncles & cousins.
Per Steve's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and he will be placed with his sister, Cathy Mae Adams in Mound Cemetery, Pana. In lieu of a visitation & funeral, there will be a celebration of life schedule at a later date and will be announced by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, who is assisting the family.
