Dr. Wilmer Howell Rogers, 59, a general practitioner in Amsterdam for more than 30 years and a former mayor of that village, died Friday morning in Ohio Valley Hospital, Steubenville, where he had been a patient two weeks. Born and educated in Louisiana, Dr. Rogers came to Amsterdam and open his practice in 1932. He was a former Jefferson County coroner and was a member of the Academy of General Practitioners: Jefferson County Medical Association; Ohio Medical Association and the American Medical Association. Dr. Rogers was graduated from Tulane Medical School, New Orleans, and interned at Charity Hospital, in New Orleans. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amsterdam the Amsterdam Moose Lodge and the Steubenville Elks Club.
Mr. Rogers was born November 9, 1906, at St. Francisville, La. He leaves his widow, Mrs. Katherine (Williams) Rogers: his mother, Mrs. Alma Webber Rogers of St. Francisville; three daughters, Mrs. Francis Martin of St. Francisville and Miss Alma Rogers and Miss Ruth Rogers, both at home; a son, Wilmer H. Rogers Jr., of Natchez, Miss.; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Anderson of Flora, Miss., and Mrs. Michael Tattaway of Inverness, Florida; a brother, Revill M. Rogers of Bellaire, Texas, and 11 grandchildren. A Requiem High Mass was held Monday morning at St. Joseph's Church in Amsterdam with Rev. Fr. George J. Voytko officiating. Burial was in Simmons Ridge Cemetery. The Sweeney Funeral Home of Amsterdam was in charge of Arrangements.
