Ann Adams Karlsson LeFever, 83, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at her home in Middletown. Born and raised in Riverside, CA, she was predeceased by her parents, Henry F. Adams and Helen R. Dales; by her first husband, A. Torston Karlsson; and by her second husband, Charles E. LeFever.
She is survived by her brother, Henry R. Adams (Joanne) of San Carlos, CA, and their children, Mary Kaufman of Redwood City, CA; Jane Adams (Andy Hyde) of Kalispell, MT; and Bill Adams of Surrey, B.C. Canada. She is also survived by her stepson, John LeFever (Cindy) of Red Bank; stepdaughters, Jeanne LeFever (Tim Galvin) of Richmond, VA, and Sarah Gabrielson (Eric) of Midlothian, VA; and by five great-nieces and nephews, seven step-grandchildren and one step great-grandson.
Ann graduated from University of California Berkeley with a B.A. in Political Science and worked in publishing before holding various managerial positions in personnel at Bamberger's, Gertz and Allied Stores Corp in NYC, retiring in 1970. She reentered the workforce in 1980 as a realtor for Rumson Realty, later Coldwell Banker, for over 10 years.
Ann volunteered much of her time with the American Cancer Society of Monmouth County, Riverview Hospital, and Meals on Wheels among others organizations, and she worked to register voters in the community for many years. She and her first husband were very involved in the establishment of a replica farm community in Bridgeton, NJ, a living museum which was dedicated by the King and Queen of Sweden in 1987 as "The New Sweden Farmstead".
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7 at All Saints Memorial Episcopal Church, 202 Navesink Ave., Navesink. All arrangements have been entrusted to the John E. Day Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Ann's memory to the American Cancer Society, the Monmouth SPCA or the Nature Conservancy.
