*--Barrister James Stewart Tupper QC is the eldest son of Sir Charles Tupper, and brother of William Johnston Tupper.

*--Educated at McGill University, he graduating in 1871; he was called to the Ontario Bar in 1875, practising in Toronto for some years.
*--He moved to Winnipeg in 1882, forming a partnership with Hugh John Macdonald (the firm later becoming "Macdonald, Tupper, Phippen & Tupper").
*--In 1890 he was named a QC (Queen's Counsel) and served as President of the Law Society of Manitoba from 1910 to 1913.

*--He married twice: his first wife Marie Wilson (née Robertson) Tupper died on 7 Aug 1876 a year after their marriage in 1875 [they'd married on 8 Sept 1875]; on 9 June 1880 he married his second wife Ada Campbell (née Galt) Tupper, the daughter of the Honourable Sir Thomas Galt [Ada died on 26 Sept 1921]. There were four children: Marie Stewart Tupper by his first marriage; Sir Charles Stewart Tupper 2nd Baronet, Jessie Campbell Tupper , and Frances Tupper by his second marriage.

*--James built his family mansion residence in Winnipeg's Armstrong's Point. He was a member of the St. Charles Country Club (served as its President from 1909 to1910), the Manitoba Club, the Adanac Club, the Conservative party, and he was a member of the board for the University of Manitoba.

*--James Stewart Tupper died in Oxford, England on 29 April 1915 and he was interred in the Wolvercote Cemetery near there .
