Helen C. Freund passed away quietly on Jan. 4, 2021, at the age of 97. Helen was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Omaha.

Helen loved sharing stories of picking asparagus, loading up and taking their vegetables to the old market in Omaha. After graduating from Benson High she left for Los Angeles, California.

Helen met Palmer Freund at Olivette Lutheran during this time. They were married at Our Saviors Lutheran in Omaha on July 8, 1949.

Palmer had a farm in North Dakota but decided to settle in Nebraska. In 1950 they decided on Fremont and purchased a lot on Maxwell Street. They did most of the building themselves after work. On April 1, 1955, they purchased Fremont Engineering Co.

Their son, Robert, was born in 1955 and Marilyn in 1958. In the early 60s they moved to Martin Street. Again, Helen did most of the interior work. In the early 70s Palmer's arthritis prompted a move to warmer weather and they moved to Glendale, Arizona.

The couple started Palmer's Plumbing Co. which grew so they purchased a lot and built a small strip mall. Growing still, in 1984 they purchased more land and built another strip mall but added a mini storage.

Palmer and she were able to travel to many countries around the world. They enjoyed time in Maui and at a cabin in the mountains near Flagstaff. Palmer and Helen enjoyed their motor home days, traveling the U.S. In 2000 they had retired so they moved into Royal Oaks Care Center. Helen and Palmer continued to travel until Palmer's health declined. After his passing in 2007, Helen continued to stay active.

Through her life she was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and woman of faith. Helen is survived by her son, Robert (Debbie, Cassie, Carly); daughter, Marilyn (Doug, Megan, Morgan, Kyle); great-grandson, Logan; and many nephews and nieces. Helen was preceded in death by her grandson, Derek. She will be missed by so many.

The service for Helen will be Friday, Jan. 15, at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, please consider giving the University of Arizona Foundation - Valley Fever Center for Excellence - Medical Research Building, Room 119, 1656 E. Mabel St., Tucson, AZ 85724.
