Vicksburg-The funeral of Mrs. John Fraser was held yesterday at 3 p. m. at her late residence, conducted by Mrs. Cora L. V. Richmond of Chicago, and her remains were taken to the Clement cemetery in Brady for interment. A large crowd of sympathizing relatives, friends and neighbors attended the obsequies of this respected pioneer and citizen. Deceased was born at Marshfield, Mass., Feb. 28. 1843[sic], being the sixth child of Benjamin Estes and Sarah Kirby. She had five brothers and four sisters. Her parents were members of the Society of Friends, in which faith she was educated and was a birthright member until her death. When she was 3 years of age they moved to a farm near Augusta, Maine, where they lived for ten years, or until 182, 3when they moved to Wheatland, Monroe county. N. Y., going all the way in a covered wagon. Here she lived until her marriage with John Fraser, October 25, 1838. The old home of both are standing there in Wheatland. In 1843, they came to Michigan with their two sons, John C. and Williams, and settled on a farm two miles south of Kalamazoo. Here, however, they only stayed about three months, removing to the farm two and one-half miles south of Vicksburg. It was then all woods with the exception of about an acre, and the old log house was barely habitable. Here two more children were born to them, Simon D. and Jannette, the former only living three months. Mr. and Mrs. Fraser were among the first settlers of this section. Two brothers survive her, Reuben H. Estes of Mendon and Thomas A. Estes of Scottsville, N. Y. Also one son, William, of Fernadino, Florida and a daughter, Jeannette, who has always lived with and cared for her. She also leaves one grandchild, Mabel. About twelve years ago she became convinced of the truth of Spiritualism and died a firm believer in the faith that she would meet her loved ones on the other side.
