Zach traveled the world, deploying to Afghanistan with the 842nd unit of the South Dakota Army National Guard, and to Iraq with the 155th Unit of the South Dakota Army National Guard. He participated in a peacekeeping mission in Surinam, as well as working to create berms during times of flooding of the Missouri River in Pierre and Yankton.
Zachary enjoyed playing games and building with Legos with his son, Matthew. He loved music. He played piano and percussion instruments. Zach was artistic and creative. He enjoyed waterskiing in summer and snowboarding in winter. Zach was a voracious reader. He enjoyed a good game of disc golf with friends. Zach was a "cat whisperer" and animals liked him. Zach collected things…stamps, coins, maps, and friends from all walks of life.
He is survived by his son, Matthew Tanska Heesch; parents, Stacie and Dan Heesch; siblings, Matthew (Mauri) Heesch, Katie (Jordan) Reiner, Emily Heesch, Joseph Heesch; niece and nephews, Eleanor, Miles, and Corbin; grandmother, Estell Sinclair; and many other family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
Zachary was preceded in death by grandparents, Jerry and Eleanor Heesch, and William Sinclair.
Zach will continue to be greatly loved in the years to come. He is at peace now, and we believe we will see him again in Heaven.
