Anton Sakes, a son of Anton and Christine Wolfe Sakes, was born December 25, 1859, in a log cabin at Lacon. While he was yet very young, the family moved to a farm west of Minonk, where he grew up and attended the Jackson school Later the family moved to Benson, where he had spent most of the remainder of his lifetime.

He was united in marriage in 1871, with Miss Anna Folkers at Benson, and they went to housekeeping on the Shuck farm near Benson. Later they moved to the Folkers place, and from 1888 to 1890, they lived in Peoria. They returned to Benson, however, and made their home one mile east and one mile north of Benson, until Mrs. Sakes' death August 22, 1914. Since that time, Mr. Sakes has made his home with his children. His son, Louis, farms the home place.

Mr. and Mrs. Sakes were the parents of seven children, one child dying in infancy and three children, Minnie, Christine and Edward, passing away while very young. Surviving are two sons, Charles and Louis Sakes, Benson; a daughter, Mrs. Minnie Ioerger of Woodford; and three grandchildren, Virgil and Doris Ann Ioerger of Woodford, and Kenneth Sakes of Benson. A brother, Joe Sakes, died in 1932, and another brother, Louis Sakes, died in 1926. A sister, Mrs. Mary Kohl, passed away in 1925, and another sister, Mrs. Minnie Abels, preceded him in death in 1936.

He was a loyal member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Benson, and was a man of sterling character. His long residence in this vicinity had brought to him many friends, who were greatly shocked to learn of his tragic passing Monday evening. McLean County coroner, Leo B. Hemmele held an inquest at the hospital at 9:30 o'clock Monday night. The jury found that death was due to a compound skull fracture sustained when Mr. Sakes fell from a tree on his daughter's farm, while trimming a tree.

Funeral services are being conducted at the Ioerger resident at 1 O'clock this afternoon and from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Benson, at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. O. A. Braunschweig, pastor of the church is officiating and burial will be in the Benson cemetery.

Pallbearers are to be: Harm Tjaden, Henry Huschen, Ralph Oltman, Harm Harms, Walter Kelsey and Lawrence Nauman.
