Mr. James Franklin Bloodworth age 93, of Starke, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville. He was born on November 29, 1927 to the late Lucy Lee (McCaskill) and Franklin Holmes Bloodworth in Perry, Florida. He was raised in Gainesville, graduating from Gainesville High School with the class of 1945 and enlisting in the Army immediately following. Mr. Bloodworth served as a hospital corpsman in
post war Germany. Upon his return home he attended and graduated from the University of Florida in 1952 with a regular Army Commission as a Lieutenant. In 1952 he married the love of his life, Betty Joan Brandon. In 1957, after leaving active Army duty and starting a career with the Florida Parole Commission, he along with his wife and two children moved to Starke. Mr. Bloodworth continued his military service with the Florida Army National Guard, rising in rank to Lt. Colonel. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Starke where he was adored by his church family. Jim was active in developing the Camp Blanding Museum, worked to bring Santa Fe College to the area, worked with the youth for the City of Starke Recreation Department, and remained a strong community supporter for the remainder of his life. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, "Bunny" and Annette and son-in-law, Lt. Col. Thomas E. Busby. Survivors are; daughters, Ellen (Reggie) Flynn of Starke, Carol Busby of Oviedo, grandchildren, Adam Roberts, Thomas Busby, John Busby and Patrick (Ave) Busby, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Windsor Manor, North Florida Regional Medical Center and Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center for their loving and excellent care of Jim. A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, April 5, 2020 at Crosby Lake Cemetery at 2:00 PM with Reverend Mike Moore officiating.
