Big Charley was an elephant performer with the LaPearl Circus. Big Charley had only developed a rapport with his trainer, Henry Huffman. When Henry had taken ill for a few weeks, Charley missed his baths at the Wabash River. When Henry felt better and took Charley to the river, Charley became angry and killed Henry. Charley was soon killed thereafter. The Miami County Museum honors him by displaying his tusks. The rest of his remains were washed away in a flood in 1913.
