She was born in Westfield, New York, and the wife of James Colwell. They moved to Ottaway, Illinois in 1853, where her husband died, leaving her ten children. She moved her family to Abilene, Kansas in March 1879, and purchased ten acres on buckeye Avenue.
She leaves seven children.
