Alan E. Ringenberg, 81, of Hillsdale, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Drews Country Living in Hillsdale. He was born October 23, 1939 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Ernest and Anna (Graber) Ringenberg. Al married Prapai Saengthong on December 21, 2006 and she survives.
Al graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1957 and from Tri-State University in 1961. Al began his civil engineering career with A.J. Hatt Engineering, later buying the business and owning Ringenberg Engineering for 40 years. He also worked as the City of Hillsdale Engineer and Building Inspector. Together with his parents, Al developed the Hilltop Terrace Subdivision in Hillsdale. He enjoyed giving back to his community as a board member for Lifeways, Perennial Park Senior Center, Hillsdale County Health Department, and he served as a Hillsdale County Commissioner. Al was a passionate breeder and trainer of English Springer Spaniels, winning several field trials. He also enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, taking fishing trips to Florida and playing golf at the Hillsdale Golf and Country Club.
In addition to his wife, Pai Ringenberg, Al is survived by two children, Cathy (Lance) Bearman of Madison, Indiana and David (Nicole) Ringenberg of Bonita Springs, Florida; two step-children, Kevin Eshelman of Newberry and Kirk (Andrea) Eshelman of Rockwood; eight grandchildren, Elise Ringenberg, Claire Ringenberg, Courtney Miller, Carrie Bearman, Caden Eshelman, Logan Eshelman, Mason Eshelman and Addelyn Eshelman; and one sister, Carolyn (Gary) Freese of Hillsdale.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Shelby Bearman and step-son, Kent Eshelman.
Private family graveside services for Al Ringenberg will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Hillsdale with Fr. Adam Rick officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
