Charles Bumbaugh, Jr., 86, a resident of Bridgewater, passed away, Tuesday morning, September 13, 2011, at Oak Lea Nursing Home, where he resided for one week.

He was born on January 6, 1925 in Chambersburg, PA, and was the son of the late Charles H. and Lydia Cook Bumbaugh.

Mr. Bumbaugh graduated from Eastern Mennonite School (now EMHS) in 1943. He lived most of his adult life in Rockingham and Augusta Counties, and from 1993-2000 lived in Naples, FL.
Mr. Bumbaugh was employed in the poultry and automobile industries; he was co-owner of Hartman-Bumbaugh Buick from 1957-1960 and was owner of Bumbaugh Buick in downtown Harrisonburg from 1960-1983 when he retired. In 1986, he opened Rebecca's Well gift shop in Bridgewater.

Charlie was a very generous, caring, and private person with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed joking and telling stories, collecting antiques, watching favorite television shows, walking on the beach, nature and feeding the birds.

In 1947 he married the mother of his children, Brownie Hartman Bumbaugh who survives; and in 1968 he married Jean Beaman Bumbaugh who preceded him in death; and from 1993-2000 he was married to Patty Mongold Bumbaugh also surviving.

He was also preceded in death by siblings, Arlene Bumbaugh, Isabelle Bumbaugh, Grace Bumbaugh, and Mark Bumbaugh.

Mr. Bumbaugh is survived by three children, Eddie Bumbaugh and wife, Jane Cox of Bridgewater, Sherry Bumbaugh McKie and husband, Arnold of Naples, FL, and Becki Bumbaugh Witt and husband, Rick of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren, Joel Tusing of Greensboro, NC and Megan Bumbaugh Varvaris and husband, Matt of Stewartstown, PA; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Cole Varvaris of Stewartstown, PA; two brothers, John Bumbaugh of Chambersburg, PA and Martin Bumbaugh of Maugansville, MD.

The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:30 PM, Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Lindsey Funeral Homes and Crematory in Harrisonburg.

At the request of Mr. Bumbaugh, he will be cremated, and a small private memorial service will be held at a later date.
