Parents: James T. Sr. and Mary E. Nolder Cover. His father survives in Clearwater, FL. His mother preceded him in death.

He served in the Air Force for 12 years. He graduated from Wilmington High School and attended Youngstown State University. He enjoyed music.

Relatives: two brothers, Timothy T. Cover and Paul R. Cover; and a sister, Marcee Bowser.
