Mrs. Esther "Peg" Joyce Elmore, 84, Knoxville, formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 6:04 am Sunday, April 18, 2021, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington, Illinois.

She was born December 13, 1936, in Beardstown, Illinois, the daughter of Herschel and Helen Louise (Wheeler) Baer. She married Charles Bankes in 1955 and he died in 1956. She married Jesse Elmore on August 18, 1962. He preceded her in death on July 27, 2016.

Peg is survived by her four children, Charles "Chuck" (Lisa) Bankes of Galesburg, Amy (Warren) Thurow of Utica, Jan (Doug) Anderson of Knoxville, Jon Elmore of Abingdon; nine grandchildren, Rhiannon (Tom) Bankes-Johnson, of Dacula, Georgia, Melissa (Daniel) Bankes of Cary, North Carolina, Maggie Thurow of Lisle, Tim (Diana) Thurow of Henry, Laura Thurow of Utica, Chelsea Bankes of Davenport, Iowa, Evan Anderson of Galesburg, Dylan Anderson of Knoxville, Jaylynn Elmore of Altona and two great grandchildren Kali Campbell of Dacula, Georgia, and Alexander Thurow of Henry; two step grandchildren Seann Anderson of Galesburg and Nathan (Haley) Anderson of Aledo and four step great-grandchildren Tannen, Parker, and Jordi of Aledo and Maddox Anderson of Abingdon; four brothers Ted (Marilyn) Baer of Rushville, Jim Baer of Rushville, Jack (Linda) Baer of Godfrey, and Tom Baer of Godfrey; three sisters, Pat Kramer of Godfrey, Judy DeWitt of Beardstown, and Nancy (Stan) Magness of Quincy.

She was also preceded on death by her parents, two brothers Phil Baer and Bill Baer, and two sisters, Sis Mallicoat and Carolyn Spillers.

She was a homemaker most of her life who enjoyed being a mother and especially a grandmother. She enjoyed the simple things in life. Her positive outlook on life and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Cremation will be accorded. To celebrate her life there will be a private family ceremony. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
