Alex Bradley Gillikin, 83, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 16, 2021. Born to Edison and Emma Gillikin, Alex was one of seven children. He was born and raised in Carteret County, North Carolina. He attended Poquoson City Schools up through eleventh grade and after, he was a part of the first graduating class at York High School in 1955. After graduation, Alex went on to work at the shipyard where he was employed there for 38 years. Alex was a handyman – he loved repairing motors, televisions, and just about anything that was put in front of him. Alex was devoted to the Lord and attended Trinity United Methodist Church.
Alex is reunited in Heaven with his parents, Edison and Emma Gillikin; brothers, Eli Gillikin, James "Red" Gillikin, and Darrell Gillikin; sisters, Pauline Simone, Catherine Bunting, Peggy Shephard; in-laws, Villa and Verlyn Watkins
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Beverly W. Gillikin; sons, Brad Gillikin, Jr. (Cheryl) and Jeff Gillikin (Nancy); grandchildren, Lindsey, Andrew, Brian, and Alyssa; great-grandchildren, Owen, Grey, Tate, Graham, and Lila.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 21st at Smith Cemetery on Brickhouse Road in Poquoson, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to Smith Cemetery (thru Claytor Rollins) or Trinity United Methodist Church at 1294 Poquoson Avenue, Poquoson, Virginia 23662. All in attendance must wear face coverings and maintain social distancing.
