Sir Charles Trevelyan, 3rd Baronet. Member of Parliament for Elland (1906-18) and then Newcastle Central (1922 -31), initially for the Liberal Party and later the Labour Party. He was - as President of the Board of Education - a member of the Labour cabinets of 1924 and 1929 to 1931. Between 1930 and 1949 he was also Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland.
