Shirley N. Singleton, 83, of Rushville, passed away peacefully July 5, 2019.
Shirley was born in Rushville February 26, 1936, a daughter of the late Jerushia (Andrews) and Chester O. Northam. She was an only child. She was raised in Rushville and attended Rushville High School. She was involved in Choir, Holcad, Rushlite and was Girls State Representative. She graduated in 1954. On Jan. 15, 1965 she married Nick Singleton at Main Street Christian Church.
They were married 43 years and blessed with three loving children; daughters, Sue E. Singleton of Rushville, Sandy L. (companion Sherry Gillespie) Singleton of Indianapolis, and a son, Michael D. "Butch" Singleton and his wife Christie, of Rushville. She is also survived by three wonderful grandchildren, Jonathon Singleton, Jama Singleton and Kelly Gillespie.
She was proud to have co-founded the Babe Ruth baseball league in Rushville and helped children with the Rush County Boys and Girls Club many years. In addition to being a longtime Girl Scout Leader she co-founded N & S Cleaning Service in 1987. She was the Sexton of East Hill Shrine Mausoleum for 13 years and also had been bookkeeper at Hillside Haven Nursing Home. She was a member of Main Street Christian Church and a former member of Kappa Delta Phi.
Cremation was chosen and no public services planned. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a memorial contributions would be made to the Nick Singleton Memorial Fund c/o Rush County Community Foundation 117 N. Main St. Rushville, IN 46173 or the charity of choice.
