Myrtle Florence Wittmer, longtime Ponca City resident, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 12, 1998, at her home. She was 84.
The funeral will be held graveside at 10 a.m. Saturday at Longwood Cemetery with Jo Clipson, bereavement chaplain of Hospice of Ponca City, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.
Myrtle Florence (Dingus) Wittmer was born May 16, 1914, in Norman, the daughter of Silas Cogan and Cora (Knouse) Dingus. In 1916, the family moved to a farm east of Harrah, where she attended Dewey Grade School in Lincoln County through seventh grade. She then attended school in Davie, Fla., for one year, then returned to Oklahoma and graduated from High School at McLoud in 1930. She attended East Central State University at Ada for a year, then moved to Ponca City in 1935.
She was married to Paul Pershing Wittmer on Dec. 24, 1938, in Newkirk. Mrs. Wittmer was a homemaker and was proud to have helped build their natural stone home in Ponca City. Her hobbies included sewing and dressmaking and she also enjoyed roller-skating, camping, water-skiing, fishing, traveling, flowers, cooking and shopping.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Wittmer of the home; two sons, William Terry Wittmer of Waterloo, Iowa, and E. Neal Wittmer of Farmers Branch, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Sammy M.) Erickson of St. Bonifacius, Minn.; one brother, R. Evert Dingus of San Pablo, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
