Around 1921 or 1922, Exford Lee and Laura (Fuller) Jones (Maurice's sister) would move to Livonia, Michigan. Exford would go to work for the automobile maker Chrysler. Family recollections state that word got back to Buford, Georgia, about Exford Lee making good (so much) money that enticed Maurice Corn Fuller to move to Lavonia, Michigan, with his family. In 1922 or 1923, Maurice, Nora Lee, and their daughter Lorraine would move from Buford to Livonia to join his sister and husband. Family recollections do not specify what business or job Maurice had while in Livonia.
Fuller family oral history has it. Nora Lee would say, "in the Christmas of 1928, the family had everything, and in the Christmas of 1929, they had nothing," and unfortunately, this would also include Maurice Fuller. Additionally, Nora Lee Justice was pregnant with her son Don in the Christmas of 1929.
Maurice Corn Fuller would go missing after dropping off his daughter Lorraine at school, and he would never be seen again. Nora Lee Justice Fuller is said to have gone to the morgue frequently looking at bodies to see if she could identify one as Maurice, but she never could. His disappearance would have occurred at the beginning of the Great Depression, which may have somehow been a contributing factor.
Maurice was two years younger than his sister Alma Eunice Fuller Pugh, and they were very close growing up together. Their mother, Margaret Maggie McKinney Fuller, would die in 1908 when Eunice was seven and Maurice was five, which had to be difficult for the two young children. Eunice (1901-1951) told her son Jim Pugh that she felt that if Maurice were unharmed, he would have eventually contacted her, but this never happened. Oddly and understandably, Nora Lee Justice Fuller never offered any information about Maurice to her children and eventually moved to Los Angeles, California where she was laid to rest.
For a long time, this has long been a Fuller Family mystery, if anyone has any information regarding this event. The Fuller Family would be grateful.
