Landon Wood enlisted in the Union Army on August 1, 1863 and was mustered into service on August 31, 1863. He served in Company C, 3rd Tennessee Cavalry Regiment. He was taken as a prisoner of war on September 25, 1864 and died on April 27, 1865 in the explosion of the steamer Sultana, north of Memphis, Tennessee on the Mississippi River. His body was never recovered.
