Mrs. Chas. A. Bergener, of Dubuque, Iowa, died at her home in that city Sunday evening, May 11, 1908, after a prolonged and painful illness of six months duration. Deceased was born in Shullsburg in 1855, and was the only daughter and eldest child of the late Andrew and Wilhelmina Hebenstreit of this city. In the early seventies she was united in marriage to Chas. A. Bergener of this place. For a short period after that event they resided here and then took up their residence in Dubuque where the husband was engaged in business up to the time of his death in 1898.
Mrs. Bergener was one in whom reposed all the qualities of heart and soul that betokens a Christian woman. She was faithful to every obligation of the bond of friendship to those to whom she was bound by that tender tie and was ever pleased to lend a cheerful and willing assistance to any whom misfortune or distress rendered dependent upon their fellow creatures for deeds of charity or kindness.
The funeral took place from her residence Tuesday morning, and her remains were interred by those of her husband in Linwood cemetery.
She was the mother of ten children three of whom preceded her to their final resting place. The surviving children besides one brother, John H. Hebenstreit of this city, left to mourn a faithful and devoted mother and sister are William, Charles, Henry, Frank, Clara, and Evelyn of Dubuque and Fred of Rockford.
